Off to See the Wizard

Donna Evry is 82 and has spent most of her life collecting Wizard of Oz memorabilia. As a young girl growing up in Butler, Pennsylvania, during the depression, Donna fell in love with the Oz books at her local library. She remembers walking up a hill to the library and coming home with her arms full of as many books as she could carry!

Donna tells people she grew up in the Land of Oz, as her childhood was spent totally absorbed in her books.

Since then she has collected all sorts of Oz related items. Some of them are currently on display for the month of March at the Evergreen Branch. There is a Wizard of Oz Monopoly game, Pez Dispenser set, collectable plates, figurines and posters. Donna also has the original set of Wizard of Oz books, plus a few more written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, the author who took over when L. Frank Baum passed away.

If you have never read any of the other books in the Wizard of Oz series, you may want to consider reading more of the adventures! Or read about L. Frank Baum, the mastermind behind these wonderful stories!
